COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Toys for Tots program is now accepting donations of new, unused toys for Christmas for needy children from now until Dec. 21.
Thirty-five collection bends are located at various businesses in Columbus.
The program has been helping families in the Chattahoochee Valley area for more than 25 years.
Organizers say the Toys for Tots Drive is especially needed during tough economic times.
"I know a number of people who don't have anything, but that pride is there and they just don't won't ask people for anything," said regional coordinator Dr. Gloria Johnson-Rodgers. "Because they feel they should be able to supply it."
Families can register for the program now through Friday, Nov. 18 at the Gwendolyn Wilkes Rainbow Center at 2201 Buena Vista Road in Columbus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
You will need to bring the following items:
- Picture ID of yourself and/or spouse
- Birth certificates for all children
- Medicare card
- Social Security Card
- Insurance card
- Proof of legal guardianship
- Current food stamp summary (in your name)
- Current utility bill (in your name or spouse's name)
- Verification of all income for entire household
