COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Chattahoochee Valley Chapter of House of Heroes hosted the first annual Heart of Serving Luncheon to recognize Vietnam veterans that they have honored this year with home repairs.

Twenty-eight Vietnam veterans or their widows were honored at the luncheon for their service.

Wayne Anthony, founder of House of Heroes, told the story of House of Heroes. Former First Lady of Arkansas Janet Huckabee was keynote speaker for the event.

Veterans say the Chattahoochee Valley has been a welcoming place.

"The people in Columbus, Georgia and this entire area are nice to me and I appreciate that," said D'Wight Smith, Vietnam veteran.
