COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The recent drought has taken its toll on several types of businesses in the Chattahoochee Valley area.

Farmers are heavily impacted by the lack of rain. but timber businesses and Christmas tree businesses are also feeling the effects of this prolonged drought.

Tree harvesters are unable to plant seedlings due to the dry ground.

It’s a concern shared by Christmas tree salespeople, who say while you may be dreaming of a white Christmas, what we really need is a wet November.

“I just wonder if they'll survive,” said Joey Putnal, a Christmas tree farm owner.

“From a danger standpoint, woods are so dry, I've seen one fire in the past two weeks it just literally… the pine straw and leaves come in contact with the equipment exhaust it's caused fires in the woods,” added timber buyer Russell Johnson.

Christmas tree salespeople strongly recommend using a water system after setting the tree up in your home.
