Benning Road 'Stone Gate' to be closed Nov. 19 for WHINSEC protest

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - Fort Benning announced Thursday that its "Stone Gate," located on Benning Road, will be closed this weekend. 

The closure will take place on Saturday, Nov. 19 for 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the annual WHINSEC protests 

Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid Benning Boulevard between Victory Drive and Fort Benning's "Stone Gate." 

"All vehicles attempting to enter the installation at any access control point on Saturday will be stopped and may be searched," a post media release said. "All drivers and adult passengers in the vehicle will be asked to present identification."

Other information from Fort Benning includes: 

  • Visitors to the installation will be able to access the post through the I-185, Eddy Bridge and Harmony Church access control points.
  • The Access Control Point on Benning Road will remain open. 
  • Inbound and outbound traffic will be routed through the National Infantry Museum and hotel parking lot onto South Lumpkin Road. The museum will be open and maintain regular weekend hours.  Visitors to the museum will be able to access it from South Lumpkin Road.
