FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - Fort Benning's Public Affairs Office issued a notice that smoke coming from a wildfire is creating very visible smoke in a surrounding area.

The notice reads:

The wildfire in the A-20 Impact Area is sending smoke throughout Harmony Church and on U.S. Hwy. 280.

It is expected that smoke in these areas will increase tonight.  Winds will generally be from the South this evening and tonight sending all smoke from the wildfire towards Harmony Church and U.S. Hwy 280.

A cold front is expected to arrive in the area tomorrow morning that will bring colder temperatures and strong Northwest winds.  This will carry the smoke from the wildfire away from Harmony Church and U.S. Hwy 280 tomorrow.

No smoke impacts to populated or sensitive areas are expected tomorrow.

Electronic messaging signs have been deployed along U.S. Hwy 280 to warn motorist of the smoke as they travel through Fort Benning.

For more information, call the Public Affairs Office. You may also visit the Smoke and Sound website at https://www.benning.army.mil/garrison/smokeandsound/ for maps and other information on prescribed burns and training.
