COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Officials are on the scene of an explosion near the intersection of Lokey Drive and Daisy Street in Columbus.
We're told the explosion was started accidentally by a child playing with a lighter, which started a grassfire.
That grassfire quickly spread to a shed next to the house. Oxygen tanks caused the explosion. Neighbors said they heard and felt the explosion blocks away.
"I heard a large explosion, it sounded like a sonic boom," said Jim Norsworthy. "I knew it was close because it kinda rattled my windows and shook the house so me and my boys walked outside, and all my neighbors had come outside and they could see the smoke coming over the trees before I did."
"I actually did hear it over the football game but it also rattled the house," said Caleb Norsworthy. "It did shook a little bit, and that's why I didn't know what was going on."
This is a developing story. Stay tuned for more details.
