FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - Fort Benning isn't waiting until Thursday to start serving Thanksgiving meals.
They will serve about 12,000 meals this week, and most of those meals will be served on Thanksgiving Day.
One unit served the feast early, allowing soldiers to celebrate with their units on Wednesday and with their families on Thanksgiving.
"When you join your peers become your family," said OCS Rocio Ramirez. "They are our family away from home. We train with them we sleep next to them. It's nice that everything was so decorated for Thanksgiving."
As part of an Army holiday tradition, senior officers and senior noncommissioned officers wore their dress blue uniforms and manned the serving lines.
