AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – The Auburn Composite Squadron is asking for the public's help in meeting a goal this holiday season.

The group is asking people to sponsor a wreath for $15 as part of the Wreaths across America initiative.

Wreaths across America is a national project that aims to have a wreath placed on every headstone at national cemeteries that honor fallen veterans.

The local group is looking to do this at the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Alabama.

For every two you sponsor, a third wreath gets donated for free. The initiative is happening now until Thursday. Call 1-877-385-9504 to donate.

The wreath laying ceremony will take place December 17 at the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.

The event will include a ceremony honoring all veterans and their families, a keynote speaker, and will conclude with placing the wreaths on the headstones of fallen heroes that have been laid to rest there.

Wreaths across America is held at every national cemetery across the U.S. on the same date and same time every year. This event is open to the public
