FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -

More than 700 Christmas trees were handed out to soldiers and their families at Fort Benning on Thursday morning.

The nationwide "Trees for Troops" program helps supply trees to 65 military bases in 17 countries.

It's the twelfth year for the program, which is sponsored by FedEx.

Workers say it's a service they are happy to provide.

“It's our way of giving back to the community that we serve and really supporting the men and women we are proud of,” said Doak Slay with FedEx.

More than 18,000 freshly cut evergreen trees are expected to be in military homes across the globe.
