2 injured in vehicle accident with train in Smiths Station

SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) -

Lee County officials are on the scene of a vehicle accident in Smiths Station on Lee Road 927 near Lee Road 430. 

Officials say a vehicle was reportedly hit by a train, and two people were injured.

Officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed that the passenger of the vehicle, 43-year-old Yulanda Haddan of Phenix City, has life-threatening injuries and was airlifted from the scene to Emory Hospital in Atlanta. 

The driver of the vehicle, 44-year-old Scott Cox, was taken to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus and is expected to be OK. Both people were ejected from the vehicle during the collision. 

The train did not derail and remained on track following the accident. The cause of the accident has not been released at this time.
