AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – The Auburn Police Department has arrested an Auburn University employee on child pornography charges.

Dennis Rae Ledbetter, age 46, from Auburn, was arrested Friday on three felony warrants charging him with possession of child pornography.

On Nov. 30, information was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Organization and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency indicating that child pornography was recently downloaded to a specific computer on the campus of Auburn University.

Further investigation resulted in Ledbetter, a Lieutenant at Auburn University's Public Safety Department, being developed as a suspect.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible. Ledbetter was transported to the Lee County Jail and will be eligible for a $90,000 bond.

The arrest is the result of an investigation by Auburn Police, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Internet Crimes against Children (ICAC) task force.

Auburn University has released the following statement on the arrest of Ledbetter:

Auburn University officials were notified by the Auburn Police Division of an investigation Wednesday and began providing all requested information. Upon notification of an arrest, the university immediately placed Mr. Ledbetter on administrative leave. The university is continuing to work with police.

According to the Auburn Police Department, Ledbetter came to the Auburn Police Department in 2004 from Auburn University during the merger as a Lieutenant. Ledbetter remained with APD for a period of time before returning to Auburn University.
