COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A new art exhibit featuring black art in America made its debut Saturday.

The Black Art in America Gallery at 1433 17th St. in Columbus opened the “Moving Earth: Works in Clay by Najee Dorsey” exhibit Saturday afternoon with an opening reception.

Having exhibited in 9 museums since 2014, Dorsey has enjoyed a successful career as a mixed media artist whose works are deeply rooted in African-American southern culture.

Dorsey’s recent work incorporates clay sculpture materials. Working to keep up with inspiration, Dorsey created more than 50 pieces in one year.

Materials used in his sculptures invoke a sense of place, whether using wood from Columbus’ Swift Mill or decades-old bamboo canes from New Orleans.

The exhibit will be open until Sunday, Jan. 8. For more information, call 706-992-6210.
