COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

It hasn’t been home sweet home so far this year for the Columbus Cottonmouths, who were 0-6 at home with a 4-9 overall record heading into Saturday’s game against Peoria.

That all changed as the Snakes topped the Rivermen 2-1 in overtime to grab their first home victory of the season.

Evan Neugold got the scoring started with a goal 16 minutes into the first period. From there, it was a physical, defensive battle.

Peoria’s Dakota Klecha scored a goal with less than three minutes to play in the game, which sent the teams to overtime.

Just 54 seconds into the extra period, Keegan Bruce scored the winning goal to give the Snakes their first home victory of the 2016-17 season.

Brandon Jaeger was solid in goal. He had 34 saves on the night and gets his third win of the year.

This victory propels Columbus to 9th in the SPHL standings.

They hit the road to face Evansville for their next game Friday, Dec. 9.
