Police: Man killed in Macon Co. car crash was driving to Atlanta for friend's funeral

MACON COUNTY, GA (WTVM) -

An Atlanta, Ga. man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Macon County on Sunday, Dec. 4. 

According to WSB in Atlanta, 20-year-old Malik Cooper was driving to Atlanta to be a pallbearer in a funeral for his best friend, who was murdered last week. 

Cooper was killed when the 2000 Honda Accord he was driving left the roadway and overturned before striking several trees. Cooper, who was not using a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The crash occurred at 9:16 a.m. on Interstate 85 near the 44-mile marker. 

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate. 

Cooper's family has also set up a GoFundMe account to raise support for his services.
