Columbus Health Dept. encourages residents to get flu shots

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - With flu activity increasing and family and friends planning gatherings for the holidays, the Columbus Health Department says now is a great time to get a flu vaccine.

The Department of Public Health and the 15 counties of the West Central Health District say they are stocked with the standard flu vaccine.

Pamela Kirkland with the Columbus Health Department says if you are still hesitant about getting a flu shot, there is one other way stay healthy

"Washing your hands is the best thing you can do to prevent germs and illnesses," Kirkland said. "The other thing you can do is stay away from sick people. If you are sick, stay home."

No appointments are necessary to get the vaccine, and most insurances are accepted.
