HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

John Anderson Sr. and his brother Jake were the only twins aboard the USS Arizona the morning of Dec. 7, 1941.

John was eating breakfast below deck while Jake worked in a separate part of the ship. When the first explosion hit, John frantically searched for Jake.

The two were never reunited.

Decades after the attack, John learned Jake died while manning an anti-aircraft gun.

"He said that he felt like he let Jake down and that he let the family down because he couldn't get him," wife Karolyn Anderson said.

John was the oldest living crewman to survive Japan's bombing of the USS Arizona. He died in November 2015 at the age of 98 in his hometown of Roswell, New Mexico.

His dying wish was to be interred on the Arizona.

"He wanted to come back and be interred with Jake there on the Arizona, and the other men that he was with," wife Karolyn Anderson said.

Anderson's remains will be interred in Gun Turret Number 4, his former battle station. After Pearl Harbor, John was assigned to a destroyer that fought battles across the Pacific.

"I have a lot of emotions leaving him here," Karolyn said. "I know that's where he would want to be."
