(WTVM) - Georgia executed its ninth inmate of the year on Tuesday at 10:05 p.m. William Sallie was put to death by lethal injection at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.
Sallie, 50, was sentenced to death in 2001 for murdering his father-in-law John Moore in 1990, shooting and wounding his mother-in-law, and kidnapping his estranged wife. The crimes happened in Bacon County, just west of Brunswick in South Georgia.
According to the GA Department of Corrections, Sallie accepted a final prayer and recorded a final statement.
There have been 68 men and one woman executed in Georgia since 1976, when the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty. Sallie was the 46th inmate put to death by lethal injection. There are currently 58 men on death row in Georgia.
