St. Luke UMC shows appreciation for first responders

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - On Wednesday, citizens in the Fountain City showed their appreciation for law enforcement in the community.

Back Columbus Blue is a nonprofit organization designed to show support and encouragement to local law enforcement and first responders.

St. Luke United Methodist Church held a breakfast and a luncheon for first responders, retirees, and their families.

This was the second year for the event, and co-founder Jed Harris says it's just a way to show public safety workers how much they are appreciated.

"It is a time for relaxation for the them," Harris said. "It also provides some down time for them to have a nice meal in a very nice setting."

Harris says they hope Back Columbus Blue program will expand to other law enforcement agencies in the surrounding area.
