COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A man has been arrested after allegedly making terroristic threats against the Columbus Police Department early Friday.
CPD Major JD Hawk says that 28-year-old Michael Whetstone, who was intoxicated, got upset and began making threats toward police saying he was going to shoot them if they came on his property.
Hawk says Whetstone also made the threats toward police in 911 calls. After a two-and-a-half hour standoff, the man was arrested and charged with making terroristic threats.
There were no other residents in the duplex with him on Bragg Smith Street and Cusseta Road when the incident happened.
Police urged neighbors to evacuate and blocked the roads in the surrounding area, forcing school buses to re-route and residents to not being able to go home in the nearby Elizabeth Canty homes.
Hawk also said that this is not the first time the man has made threats against police after drinking.
The roads have since reopened for residents that live in the area.
