SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) - A Glenwood Gator is heading to the next level. Jaylee Sawtelle signed a tennis scholarship with Berry College Friday morning.
It's the first tennis signing under head coach Brett Blevins. Sawtelle won an individual state title as a freshman and her tennis teams have finished top three every year in the state tournament. Friday was an even greater accomplishment.
"It's a big accomplishment and I'm very thankful for it," Sawtelle said. "My family and friends really just helped me through the whole thing. It was weird at first because I never thought I would get anything. I just thought I would go to college and just pursue that, but never tennis so this is just very exciting."
Jaylee's 9th-grade year she won state at number 4 singles and runner-up at number 2 doubles. In 10th-grade she was runner-up at number one singles in state.
Last year she was runner-up at number 1 singles and number 2 doubles.
