AUBURN, AL (WTVM) –Rain in the forecast is good news for Alabama farmers who say they're still struggling with the drought.

Some say they're having to get a little creative to make sure they have enough hay to feed cattle.

They say they've resorted to adding protein to feed along with cotton seed, and brewer's grain.

The Alabama extensive system says we're still ten inches short of the needed rainfall but they say for farmers in need, assistance programs are available.

“If they have the documentation to prove that they have cattle, how many cattle they've had things of that nature three's some dollars out there to help them,” said Jimmy Smitherman with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.

The USDA is also offering assistance to those in need across the state.
