FORT MITCHELL, AL (WTVM) – Veterans buried at the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery were remembered in an annual wreath laying ceremony Saturday.

Wreaths Across America is an annual nationwide event where the goal nationwide is the place live wreaths on the headstones of veterans laid to rest at all national cemeteries.

The event was hosted by the Auburn Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery.

Thousands of wreaths were placed on headstones.

The mission of the event is to remember the fallen, honor those who serve, and to teach youth the value of freedom.
