COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Hundreds of families lined up for the Safe Kids Columbus 7th annual Helmet Giveaway.
A line wrapped around the Columbus Public Library as parents brought their kids to get a free helmet.
More than 1,000 helmets were given out at the event.
The helmet giveaway is sponsored by attorney Gary Bruce, who purchased the helmets.
Pamela Fair with Columbus Regional Health says a family spare themselves a lot of pain and suffering if their child uses a helmet.
"A head injury takes forever to recover from if, they do at all," Fair said. "It is a long, hard process for all involved. It all can be prevented if they just wear a helmet."
After they got their helmets, kids got to visit Santa Claus. There was even hot chocolate provided by Country's Barbecue.
