2 Auburn men arrested for burglary near E. Drake Ave.

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) – Auburn police have arrested two men in connection with burglary in the third degree and fleeing and attempting to flee police.

On Thursday, Feb. 2, at 1:30 p.m. Auburn police received a burglary in progress call at a residence in the 200 block of E. Drake Avenue.

Responding officers were given the description of two black males seen forcing entry into the back door of a residence.  When officers arrived on the scene they observed two individuals that matched the description, who were running from the scene.

Officers immediately pursued the suspects and after a brief chase, 20-year-old Travis Demond Vickerstaff and 19-year-old Melike Deshawn Philpot were taken into custody and identified as the black males seen unlawfully entering the victim's residence.

Vickerstaff received additional charges of resisting arrest and assault in the third degree. There were no serious injuries reported during the incident and no property was taken from the residence.

Vickerstaff and Philpot were both transported to the Lee County Jail. Vickerstaff remains in custody on a $7,500 bond, while Philpot is being held on a $6,000 bond.
