LADONIA, AL (WTVM) - Cheers and support were heard from Ladonia, AL as Shaw High School grad Phillip Wheeler played in the Super Bowl.
Friends and family gathered to watch the game at a small watch party at the Powell family home, who are close friends of Wheeler.
Wheeler, who is a linebacker for the Falcons made his Super Bowl debut with the second tackle for the team.
His family and friends says it's a 15-year tradition to throw a Super Bowl party, but this year was extra special.
"We always watch Phillip when he comes across the screen, I even try to take my phone and take a picture of him while he's on the TV," said family friend Paula Shaw-Powell. "So we're really proud of him. He means a lot to our church and our city. We are really proud of him."
This was the second time Wheeler has gone to the Super Bowl. He previously went as a member of the Indiana Colts in 2009.
