PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

A Phenix City native is being recognized for her service as a U.S. Navy sailor providing healthcare for veterans, service members and their families.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Crystal Cunningham is a 2006 Central High School graduate who serves as a hospital corpsman at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, CA.

According to Navy officials, sailors who are part of Navy medicine are the most highly trained, educated, and specialized force in history.

Cunningham says she feels honored to be able to serve at a hospital that is continually raising the bar in health care.

“The Navy means that I have the opportunity to be a role model for little girls from small towns who might think they are stuck,” added Cunningham. “I am proof that there is something bigger.”
