LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) – The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man who is charged with robbing a Smiths Station convenience store.

Anthony Dion Williams, 28, of Phenix City, was arrested Friday and charged afternoon with two counts of first-degree robbery and one count of possession of a firearm.

Williams is currently being held in the Lee County Detention Center on a $210,000 bond.

At around 1 p.m. Friday, the Griggs Inc/Bizzy Bee Service Station located at the intersection of Lee Road 240 and Lee Road 236 in Smith Station was robbed.

911 calls state that the business had been robbed by an armed suspect and the same suspect had also robbed a person that had just gotten money out of the store ATM.

According to both robbery victims, the armed suspect had entered the store, showed a silver handgun, and took an undisclosed amount of cash before running on foot from the business.

A witness observed suspect jumping into a tan Lincoln Town Car and speeding off.  The witnesses followed the suspect while contacting law enforcement of their direction of travel.

The suspect traveled into Phenix City where he was caught by Phenix City Police Officers near the intersection of 13th St. and 26th St. after a brief foot chase. No one was injured in this incident.

If you have any information about this case, please contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651.
