COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – One local man rallied the community together to help those affected by the storms that devastated South Georgia in January.

Raymond Chambless and his wife teamed up with The Gold Man store in Phenix City to begin collecting donations for those in need.

The group collected items such as water, canned goods, blankets, and personal hygiene items.

Chambless says the outpour from the community has been heartwarming.

"This can happen to us as well as it had happened to them and you just do what you can to help people. That's the thing if you want to make America great again it takes us not one person it takes everybody so that's how you make America great is when you help your neighbor," Chambless said.

This is the second trip for the couple as they assisted in the cleanup process nearly 2 weeks ago. They say they are always open for more donations.
