SCAM ALERT: CPD warns public of officer impersonators

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus police are warning the public about a scam involving two people who claim to be officers.

Authorities say two men who call themselves Capt. Wells and Sgt. Davis have been calling people requesting money via Money-Gram.

The scammers say the funds are needed to cover the cost of having their son transferred from the Muscogee County Jail to house arrest.

Columbus police say they will never request money over the phone, and if you get a call like this you should hang up and call investigators at the number on your screen.
