COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Students at Veterans Memorial Middle School celebrated Black History Month with a special rendition of a "Show Time at the Apollo" talent show.

They took to the stage staying true to the legendary variety show with songs from every genre.

The students also rubbed a section of the Tree of Hope for luck. The tradition of the tree started outside the famous Harlem Theater in New York.

Assistant Principal Taneisha Ingersoll says it's a special way to celebrate what the month represents.

"Today we are tying in the Harlem Renaissance into our Black History Month Celebration. We have several students who are participating in our Show Time at The Apollo Talent Show and students will also be able to go through our museum," said Dr. Taneisha Ingersoll, Assistant Principal at Veterans Memorial Middle School.

The students, faculty, and teachers even looked the part as they wore costumes and got into character from the Renaissance era.
