LANETT, AL (WTVM) - A Lanett man has been charged with aggravated assault and capital murder in the death of a 2-year-old girl.
Officers with the Lanett Police Department were notified of the girl's death when she was taken to the emergency room at EAMC-Lanier on Friday, Feb. 24.
Members of Lanett Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the hospital as well as to the residence where the child was living.
The child was identified as Breann Cyneisha Avery, and her body was sent to Montgomery for an autopsy.
On Saturday, Feb. 25 Raeshon Kivontrea Williams, 20, of Lanett was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse in connection with Avery's death.
Once the autopsy was concluded, the child's death was officially ruled a homicide and Williams was charged with capital murder as well.
No further information is being released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
