COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Junior League of Columbus will join the Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) March 6-10 to increase community awareness of poverty and diaper need.

During the LBDI, members are to wear the same black dress for the entire week, along with a button that reads, “Ask Me About My Dress!” Participants will post pictures daily on social media platforms using the hashtag #JLCdoesLBDI.

The average cost of diapers is $80 monthly. Public Assistance Programs such as WIC and SNAP don’t allow for the purchase of diapers. Therefore, some parents sacrifice other necessities to afford them.

The Junior League of Columbus has collected diapers throughout the year and will continue collections March 6-10. Diapers will be delivered to area agencies Friday, March 10.

All 12 Junior Leagues in Georgia will participate in the LBDI throughout the year.
