FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) -

Fort Benning will conduct prescribed burns Friday and Saturday.

Wind direction is expected to keep smoke away from sensitive areas, but the wind may change during the day due to shifts in the weather.

Fort Benning conducts prescribed burning to reduce the impact of wildfires by removing excess fuel, improve the usability of training lands, improve wildlife habitat, protect personal property, and to provide ecological maintenance.

The Fort Benning Land Management Branch conducts prescribed burning when the weather is favorable, and every effort is made to control smoke. Due to changing weather conditions, smoke intensity and directions can change.
