PINE MOUNTAIN, GA (WTVM) – Spring has sprung a little early in Pine Mountain as the azaleas are blooming early at Callaway Gardens.
Directors noticed they were blooming at the end of the month of January.
This is unprecedented because the flowers usually do not bloom until the end of March or the middle of April.
Officials say this is the earliest they can remember for the famous azaleas blooming in the Overlook Azalea Garden.
The director says she wants to make everyone aware so they can come out and enjoy the natural beauty of the flowers.
"Every day is great and every spring is different, but this spring is a lot different because we haven't had hardly any winter and an early spring as it is showing right now. Why is that happening I don't know but I never had this experience at Callaway before," said Patricia Collins, the Director of Gardens at Callaway Gardens.
Officials say some of the flowers are even nearing the peak blooming stage. The Callaway Brothers Azalea Bowl is beginning to bloom but is later flowering than the Overlook Azalea Garden.
