MONTGOMERY, AL (WTVM) – Alabama Governor Robert Bentley made an announcement about a new park to be built to celebrate the state's 200th birthday.
In 2019, Alabama will be two-hundred-years-old.
Bentley announced this morning that a capitol bicentennial park will be built right across from the capitol building in Montgomery.
The park will feature statues that tell Alabama's story.
"We are going to have a bicentennial park with 16 statues and these will commemorate events and individuals that were a part of our history," said Alabama Governor Robert Bentley.
The launch ceremony is scheduled for May 5 in Mobile.
