COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Famed writer for the New Yorker magazine Hilton Als made his way to the Chattahoochee Valley for the Centennial celebration of Carson McCullers.
Mr. Als' presentation is part of the month-long series of events celebrating Columbus native McCullers, whose 100th birthday was February 19.
The programs have been jointly presented by the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries and the Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians at Columbus State University.
"I really appreciate everything that Henry McCoy and the Chattahoochee Valley libraries have done to help us celebrate the centennial of Carson McCuller's birth and I think that Hilton Als who is a major critic from a major magazine is a fitting way to end these festivities," said Nick Norwood, Director of the Carson McCullers Center.
Friday's event was the last of a series in the celebration.
They've had screenings of films based on Carson McCullers' books, and even an appearance by actress Karen Allen, who made a short film based on a true story by Carson McCullers.
