COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus police have arrested a woman in connection with Saturday's fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman.

Jovonne Williams, 36, was arrested for the hit-and-run on Monday around 6:48 p.m. Williams was charged with homicide by vehicle, driving while license suspended or revoked, not reporting a fatal injury accident and no proof of insurance.

Kassandra "Kassie" Hollinhead was hit by a car Saturday night while crossing the road from the Citgo convenience store at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Murray Street.

After being hit the first time, Hollinhead was tossed into the opposing traffic lane where she was hit once more by a second car. Police say the first car that hit her stopped on the scene, but the second car did not.

We spoke to Kassie's cousin Derrell Anthony, who said the family is having a hard time dealing with the situation.

"They are causing a lot of pain right now, they have kind of misconstrued the mentalities of a lot of her family members because we can't grasp right now that we were just with her between two and five minutes of her laying down in that street," Anthony said.

We're told Kassie did not have any children, but she leaves behind numerous family members who loved her.

The family has set up a GoFundMe page for Kassie. If you would like to help the family financially please click here.
