Woman arrested for stealing dog from Columbus animal rescue center

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The woman who is accused of stealing a dog from Animal Ark Rescue Center was arrested and released on bond.

According to Columbus police, 26-year-old Aysia Newkirk was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree burglary.

Surveillance video showed a woman, who is believed to be Newkirk, walking the perimeter of the rescue center with the dog, “Lil Paul” in her arms wrapped under a possible stolen dog bed.

Paul is recovering at Animal Ark Rescue Center from rotten teeth and a skin condition.

Newkirk bonded out of jail Wednesday morning.
