COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Columbus police have arrested a man for three separate shootings at a home on Liberty Avenue
On Jan. 12 around 3:49 a.m. police were called to the 300 block of Liberty Avenue regarding a shooting. When they arrived at the residence, they met with a resident who says that someone was shooting in front of their home. Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident.
On Jan. 19 around 2:38 a.m. police were called again to Liberty Avenue about another shooting where no one was injured.
Then, on Jan. 30 police responded to a third shooting in the same location where they discovered that someone actually shot at the residence on Liberty Avenue. At the time of the shooting, the home was occupied by six people, including two four-year-old children. However, no one was injured in this shooting.
An investigation by Columbus police of these incidents revealed that the shootings were all determined to be related and committed by the same suspect.
Police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Christopher Peterson and an aggravated assault warrant was issued for his arrest.
On March 3, 2017, Columbus Police Robbery and Assault investigators observed Peterson walking in the Elizabeth Canty Apartments on Cusseta Road and officers called for patrol assistance.
After officers briefly chased Peterson, he was arrested. During the chase, he discarded a loaded handgun and he was found with possession of crack cocaine and marijuana.
Peterson has been charged with the following offenses:
- Six counts of aggravated assault
- Three counts of reckless conduct
- Two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute
- Possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute
- Possession of a controlled substance within 1000’ of a housing project
- Obstruction of a police officer
