COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Two Columbus companies have been named as '2017 World's Most Ethical Company.'
Aflac and TSYS were recognized by the Ethisphere Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices.
TSYS has been recognized five times in the last six years and is one of only seven companies in the financial services industry to receive this multi-year distinction.
"At TSYS we operate in a transparent, fair and ethical manner in all of the interactions with our clients, our shareholders and the local communities in which we operate," said M. Troy Woods, chairman and chief executive officer, TSYS. "It is only through the hard work and dedication of our nearly 11,500 team members around the world that this honor is possible for our company."
Aflac has been named the most ethical company for the 11th time. This makes Aflac the only insurance company to appear on the list every year since it was created in 2007.
Aflac is among 124 companies being honored in 2017 and is the only company from the Accident & Life Insurance category.
"We take enormous pride in being considered a World's Most Ethical Company," Aflac Chairman and CEO Dan Amos said. "As a company that sells a promise, it is essential that our customers can rely on Aflac to do the right thing when it comes to providing the benefits they need."
The World's Most Ethical Company assessment is based upon the Ethisphere Institute's Ethics Quotient framework developed over years of research to provide a means to assess an organization's performance in an objective, consistent and standardized way.
Scores are generated in five categories: ethics and compliance; corporate citizenship and responsibility; culture of ethics; governance and leadership; innovation and reputation.
