COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - It's a celebration of a life gone too soon. Carver High baseball coach, David Pollard, was killed last April when a car reportedly ran a red light on Buena Vista Road.
Pollard would've turned 37 this Monday, so his family and friends decided to hold a birthday party for him anyway.
The grill was going with plenty of food and inflatable games for the kids. All for one man who had a tremendous effect on their lives... especially his baseball players. And through the tears and sorrow, his wife says a party was the right thing to do.
David Pollards widow, Adrienne Pollard says, "He was a bit obsessive about his birthday, celebrated it all month every year that I've known him so it didn't feel right for us to not mark the occasion so we just decided to have a party and invite the community to come and partake."
Pollard's family was also taking donations during the party for repairs to Carver High School's baseball field-- which was renamed David Pollard Field last April.
