COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A former contracted doctor at Columbus' St. Francis Hospital is in the Muscogee county jail facing sexual assault charges.

Dr. Samir Yousef is accused of sexually assaulting a female patient at the hospital in May of 2015.

On Wednesday, Yousef's attorney released the following statement:

Through cooperation with the District Attorney Office, we have turned Samir Yousef in and we appreciate the courts consideration for setting a bond which we are currently making arrangements for. Samir Yousef has adamantly maintained complete innocence. We presented multiple sworn affidavits to the court attesting to Samir Yousef's character. He has never been arrested before. We look forward to presenting evidence in court to support his innocence.

According to officials, Yousef was in court Tuesday morning and was ordered held on $200,000 bond.

Yousef is a board-certified hospitalist or contracted worker and internalist. A civil case has also been filed.

St. Francis released the following statement saying: "St. Francis is not a liberty to comment because it is pending litigation."
