AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Auburn University is celebrating a big milestone. After years in the making, soon the dirt started moving today to make way for a new performing arts center.
The programming that will be going on inside of this new performing arts center will include everything from nationally touring Broadway productions to student and faculty music and theater performances.
A star-studded cast of Auburn alumni came together for the groundbreaking ceremony.
Instead of turning dirt this light was turned on.
Once built, the new center will include a 1,200 seat main performance hall, an open lobby, and lawn that will serve as an additional performance venue.
All of this was made possible through a $25 million donation.
The performing arts center will be located right across from the Jules Smith Collins Museum.
The center is expected to be complete by 2019 with programming beginning that year.
