Snakes fall at Roanoke

The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs snapped a scoreless tie with a pair of third period goals to hand the Columbus Cottonmouths a 2-1 loss on Tuesday night to keep the Snakes from clinching the final spot in the SPHL playoffs, and keep their own playoff hopes alive.

Zach Tatrn scored at the 3:45 mark of third period, with Dmytro Babenko beating Spencer Bacon at 8:57 to give the Dawgs a 2-0 lead.

Chad Brears got the Snakes on the board at the 15:24 mark, but they were unable to notch a tying goal. Ty Reichenbach stopped 37 shot to earn the win. Bacon had 30 saves in the losing effort.

The Cottonmouths travel to Evansville to take on the Thunderbolts on Friday and Saturday night. All they need is to earn one point, or to have Roanoke fail to win their final two games at Macon, to earn that playoff spot.
