EUFAULA, AL (WTVM) – Eufaula City Schools is partnering with the Jaxon Life Senior Center to start an annual Senior Dance in response to a Eufaula High School student inviting his grandmother to prom.
The viral story of #LetNannyGoToProm has been shared nationally and now Eufaula High School student Bryce Maine will be able to take his grandmother, Catherine Maine, to a separate prom catered towards students who want to take their grandparents and other family members.
"To offer a prom for the senior adults so they can go back in time for a night or to be able to attend a prom for the first time says a lot about the character of these young men and women. Some of these senior adults may actually be grandparents to the students that want to provide this special occasion for them," said Keef Pettis, the director of Eufaula Parks and Recreation.
The inaugural 'Senior Banquet/Dance' will be held on April 25 at 6 p.m. at the Jaxon Life Senior Center.
The joint prom with the Senior Center is an excellent opportunity for students to acknowledge grandparents' contributions to their lives. We thank Bryce Maine and his grandmother for reminding us of the importance of extended family and being the catalyst for this joint venture with the Senior Center," said Superintendent of Eufaula Schools Dr. Elisabeth Davis.
The dance will feature a photographer, a prom king and queen, and a DJ.
