FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) – Ask any soldier in boot camp if they fear their drill sergeant, and you'll probably get a resounding yes.

But that is not the case for troops taking Advanced Individual Training.

The reason is this: Drill sergeants were eliminated from the AIT program a decade ago.

The Army did so to recognize a young solder's transition to having more control.

But platoon sergeants say it has led to quote "issues" with the staff, that the troops lack discipline.

So the decision has been made to bring back the drill instructors for the Advanced Training Program.

Their expected return is set for 2019.
