PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - The Central Red Devils got out to an early lead en route to a 7-4 win over the Auburn Tigers on Thursday in the 7A-Area 4 opener for both teams, the game played at Darnell-Nelson Field in Phenix City.
Jay Kehoe's two-run double in the second inning helped stake the Devils to an early 3-0 advantage.
Auburn responded with solo homers from Rawlings Cleveland in the fourth inning and Rowdy Jordan in the fifth to cut the deficit to one run, but Central's Tanner Belcher put the Red Devils back in control in the bottom of the fifth with a 3-run shot.
Evan Baber went the distance to pick up the win, giving up just two earned runs on six hits while striking out seven.
Central and Auburn meet up in a doubleheader on Friday at Sam Welborn Field in Auburn starting at 5:30 pm ET, 4:30 pm CT.
