COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Today, Fort Benning welcomed children from the tri-city area for the 4th annual Fort Benning Field Day for Exceptional
Children.

More than 12 hundred competitors from Fort Benning schools, home schooled families, and Chattahoochee, Harris, Lee, Muscogee, and Russell counties competed in a variety of Field day type events.

Organizers say this activity has grown substantially since its first time.

Marketing MWR, Bridgett Siter, says, "This is a big deal. It started 4 years ago with only twenty children from Fort Benning. Today we'll have about twelve hundred competitors. So it's become a very big deal. This is probably the most heartwarming event we have every year on Fort Benning."

Activities included the 25-meter dash, tennis ball throw, and inflatable obstacle course to name a few.
