COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Hundreds showed up to Woodruff Park Saturday morning for Columbus' annual Light It Up Blue 5K and Family Friendly Walk.

The event was organized by both the Autism Hope Center and the Autism Society of Alabama.

Diane Pope, one of the event's organizers, says, "Many people in our area don't even realize the number of people in our area impacted by autism. It's important for people to understand how many people there are with autism. We estimate in the Chattahoochee valley there are 3,500 or more and I know most people don't know that."

Many deputies spent time throwing frisbees with children and giving them a sneak peek inside their patrol car.
