COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – The Controllers Civic and Social Club hosted its annual Easter shoe giveaway on Wednesday.

In the past 36 years, the club has given away more than 24 thousand shoes to underprivileged children in the Chattahoochee valley.

The groups' goal for this year is to give out over 12 hundred shoes.

The Controllers president says this event is a great way to help children in the community.

“Because without us a lot of these children, remember what mama said, you got two pairs of shoes a year. You get your school shoes and your Easter shoes and of course those become your Sunday shoes you know what I'm saying. So, it's those kinds of things that we do. We always try to give back to the community,” said Will Simmons, Controller and Civic Social Club President.

Children who participated came to the Shoe Show in Peachtree Mall to pick out their new shoes.
